Great news coming out of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) today – ‘The Energy Act’ has now become law and will pave the way for the Green Deal which will be launched in Autumn 2012.

According to the DECC press release ‘the Green Deal will revolutionise the energy efficiency of the nation’s homes and businesses. It will help people insulate against rising energy prices, creating homes which are warmer and cheaper to run’

The key elements of the Act will, via the Green Deal:

  • Remove the upfront cost of energy efficiency measures
  • Put consumer protection at the heart of the Green Deal
  • Provide extra financial help for the most vulnerable and hardest to treat homes
  • Improve at least 682,000 privately rented homes

Indeed, this looks set to be a huge help to millions of homeowners who, at present, simply cannot afford to insulate their home to the desired standard. The DECC’s ‘Housing Energy Fact File’  highlights that more than half of homes in Great Britain don’t have sufficient insulation, which includes amongst other things energy efficient double glazing or triple glazing that keeps more heat in the home than single glazed windows or old fashioned double glazed windows.

The current minimum U-value (heat loss value) for windows is 1.6Wm2K, but future Building Regulations look set to demand 1.4Wm2K and 1.2Wm2K U-values in 2013 and 2016 respectively. Replacement triple glazed windows from the Triple Glazing Superheroes have a fantastic 1.0Wm2K U-value and by investing in triple glazing homeowners can vastly improve the energy efficiency of their home, contribute to lowering national carbon emissions and future-proof their home against revised Building Regulations in one fell swoop.

Although there are no official Green Deal schemes in place at present, uPVC triple glazed windows and doors would be an ideal product to be included in such schemes because of the financial savings they allow homeowners to make and their significant contribution to the overall insulation of a property.

Needless to say, the Triple Glazing Superheroes will be working tirelessly to ensure that thier triple glazed windows and doors are made available to the public by a Green Deal scheme as soon as possible after the initiative is launched next year.
